Border Stargaze 2010
ASAW and CSU were off to a flying start with the most successful outreach student program to date!!
During National Science Week Charles Sturt University and the Astronomical Society of Albury Wodonga hosted over 600 students during three days of fun sicence based interactive workshops. Students learnt and were involved in activities involving geological formation processes, asteroids, constellations, Jupiter, biodiversity, the environment and the ever popular Cosmodome with a journey to Ice Worlds in one of their latest education products. Tertiary students from CSU's Murray school of education supported ASAW volunteers in engaging students from our region. We received overwhelming and positive feedback from all participants either through conversations with teachers and their support (parents etc), comments from the young students, CSU students and ASAW volunteers, emails from schools post their visit with us or simply from those that looked on and enjoyed being involved. By the end of the event students had enjoyed participating in:
- 17 meteor cratering sessions involving 68 mock up moon surfaces
- 13 Jupiter sessions
- 13 constellation sessions
- 30 CSU activities (15 biodiversity/15 environment), and
- 18 Cosmodome sessions
